10thirtysix | Bakhita House

January is Human Trafficking Month. 10thirtysix begins a look at human trafficking in Milwaukee and what's available for survivors for support. Maryann Lazarski sits down with the director of the Bakhita House, the newest of the safe havens in the city for female survivors of human trafficking. Find out what this "home" offers the residents and why the director is so passionate about her work there. Human Trafficking is problem across the country, including here in Milwaukee. According to the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Every year, millions of men, women and children are trafficked worldwide. The FBI in Milwaukee says some of the youngest female victims have been 11 years old.
